The number of cases admitted to the Gaol Hospital were sixty two less than in 1884, and the number of deaths twe as compared with turee in 1884.
Every day there are curabers of petty cou plaints attended to that are not registered, also a number of malingeres sad others that come up for Bramination or to be reparted on as to their fitness for punishment.
Table XL gbsws the rate of sekness and deaths with the percentage to total admissions and daily average number of prisoners. In both cases this is very small, especially when the oror crowded state of the Gaol is taken into considers tion, on which subjects Committee of Inquiry is now sitting to aggest a remedy it possible.
Table XIa shows the number of silmissions to Hospital diroot from the Coarte; Europeans suffering chiedy from alcoholio, Chinese from dubility or vensreal discasa.
Twe mumbers of the Police Force, bath Ea. repezes contracted constitutional syphilis. In one of these cases, however, it was contacted in tha axecution of lus duty. The constable, a man of very good character, white defending himself in a scuffle with a number of seamen, hit one man on the mouth inflisting a slight wound on his own kaxeklo from sontact with the man's tooth. The man atrock must have been suffering from syphilitic sores in the moath, for the wound re- caived of the constable developed into a chancro and ultimately secondary symptoms of a very co- vere form showed themselves. The Government, I am happy to say, has compensated the constable for his injury us far as lies in its power. Only one onse of secondary syphilis was received into port. The working of Contagious Diseases Or. the Ciell Hospital from among the seamen in linance, both among the men and women, may be considered as very satisfactory.
