HONGKONG SHARE QUOTATIONS.

SHANGHAI_SHARE QUOTATIONS.
HONGKONG, 29th May, 1908.-Our market generally has continued to rule steady to firm during the past week, the chief feature of which is a farther substantial advanoe in the value of Banks, for which an unsatisfied demand at the close still exists. Bar silver is quoted at 241d., and exchange on Londen at 1/9 T.T The rate on Shanghai is steady at 74. The Bank of England rate of discount has been reduced to 2 per cent., and the open market rate for 3 months' bills to 1 per cent.
BANKS.-Hongkong and Shanghais continu- ing in request, the rate rose rapidly from $730 to $750 with small sales at these and intermedi- ate rates, and the market closes strong at the latter. London has further advanced to 4:76,103. Nationals are still wanted at $51.
MARINE
INSURANCES. — A small sale of Unions at $795 is reported, and there are further sellers at the rate. North Chinas are obtainable at Tls. 78, and Cantons at $235. Yaugiszes have improved in the North to $147.
FIRE INSURANCES.-Hongkongs continu in strong request, and no shares appear to be ferthcoming at the present quotation of $313 buyers Chinas have been booked at $93, and it is probable that more shares could be placed at the rate.
SHIPPING.-Sales of Hongkong, Canton and Macaos are reported at $29, $291 and 8291 and there are further buyers at the latter rate. Star Ferries have declined to $25 and $15 for the old and new issues respectively, ex the div. of 15 per cent. for the year ended 30th April last, paid yesterday. Other stocks under this heading are unchanged and without business.
MINING. Raubs have been booked at $3, and more shares are procurable. Charbonnages continue in request, but shares are not obtaio- able at present rate locally.
DOCKS, WHARVES AND GODOWNS.-Hong- kong and Whampoa Docks have beer booked at $103, and more shares are wanted. Hong. kong and Kowloon Wharves have been sold at $52 and $511, and there are further sellers at the latter rate. New Amoy Docks continue in request at $9); and Shanghai Docks at the improved rate of Tls. 87. Shanghai and Hong- kew Wharves are wanted in the North at Tls. 226.
REFINERIES.
-Ching Sugars, under a little pressure to sell, declined to $125, but close fir- mer with buyers at the rate. Luzons have continued to advance, and sales up to $22 are reported.
LANDS, HOTELS AND BUILDINGS.-Hoog- kong Lands have been booked at $99, anl Kowloon Lands at $26. West Points are obtainable at $49, and Hongkong Hotels at $95 after a sale at the rate. Humphreys Estates have been done at from $10 to $101, closing with bayers at the former and sellers at the lower rate.

COTTON MILLS.-There is no business to report in this section, and quotations are more or less nominal.
MISCELLANEOUS. China Borneos have again brèn booked at $103, closing with buyers at this and some sellers at $11. China Pro- vidents are still wanted at 29, but shares are very scarce, and a slightly higher rate would undoubtedly be paid. Green Island Cements have been done at 81() and $16‡ closing steady at the higher rate with a firmer tendency. Hongkong and China Gas Shires have been booked at $175 and there are further beyers. Ropes after sales at the reduced rate of $30 are in request at this figure. China Light and Powers are wanted at the improved rats of 87, and William Powells at $54. Langkats have further advanced in the North to Tls, 510.
