THE HONGKONG WEEKLY PRESS AND
EXPORTS:-
TEA.
► YOKOHAMA.—A return has been compiled by the Yokohama Board of Trade showing in con- siderable detail the export of tea from Japan to America for the season 1907-1908. From Yoko- hama the export was 25,057,6-416 lbs. and from | Kobe 9,147,067-total 34,204,713 lbg.
Of the new season teas, the Yokohama Board of Trade report that the market opened on the same date as last season. Supplies, however, have come down from the country more regularly and in greater quantities. The cup quality is, general- ly, tolerably good, but the leaf of any but the choicest grades-of which very few have been seen-is dry and in consequence the proportion of broken leaf is large. Stocks on the market at the present time are well up to the average. Total settlements at Yokohama from May 1st to May
14th amount to 15,542 piculs against 12,280 picul, at the corresponding date last year,
SILK,
CANTON, May 16th.-The settlements for the fortnight have been 600 bales for Europe and 400 for America. Stocks in Canton aggregate 8,000 bales.

A steady business is doing in Waste Silk at un. changed prices. The stock offers very little choice, and arrivals are small. Settlements from April 27th to May 11th, 2,200 piculs, Total settlements July 1st to May 11th, 32,100 piculs. Stock on May 12th is estimated at 10,700 piculs. Habutai-The Echizen Market has shown .picul $4.30 considerable advance since the commencement of
the month, and holders do not appear at all anxious to sell. The demand from Europe and America has, however, been most unimportant

but of the two there has been more from the lat-
ter country. Goods from the Kaga District have shown an active rise, but this is probably due to the filling of old contracts, new business being conspicuous by its absence. With regard to Kawamata, there has been a marked decline in 41.00 all widths, and enquiries from abroad have fallen off entirely. Summarizing the general outlook, 88.00 it would seem that the export trade in Habutai 7.50 is likely to show a considerable diminution in the near future, buyers having no desire to operate at present prices.

JAPAN MARKET INFORMATION.
Yokohama, 15th May. Cotton Yarns, No transactions reported. Prices in Manchester have again declined, and local values are nominally Yen 10 per bale lower. Clearances are very unsatisfactory.
Cotton Piece Goods.-Manchester is reported slightly firmer for textiles fabricated from American Cotton. There is no movement locally, and, in the absence of business, values are nominally unchanged.
Woollen and Woollen Mixtures.-Nothing of interest to report. Deliveries continue un- changed.
Textiles Generally.-Some inclination on the part of buyers to operate at current prices is checked by the slow off-take recent arrivals
against high priced contracts, and, as the producing centres are able to give prompt ship- ment, it is thought that nothing will be lost by delay.
There is no change to report.
Raw Cotton.-The market still remains dull.
Rice. No change since last report. Metila. With the expcetion of 200 tons Steel Plates, practically no business has been done. during the past fortnight. The market remains dull with unchanged prices,
Window Glass-Still no business doing. Kerosene Oil.-Arrivals and deliveries for the first half of May show Standard Oil Co.: Arrivals, nil; deliveries 31,300 cases.
Sun Rising Petroleum Co.: Arrivals nil; deliveries 32,00)
Sogar-Business remains in the same dull
