NATIONALIST CHINA Excerpts Of Minutes Of Munich Meeting Released In IOC Bulletin

Lausanne, Switzerland, Aug. 10

The mombers of the International Olympic Committee, while diffaring on what action to take, were practically unanimous at their Munich session in recommending a change of name for the Nationalist Chinese Olympic Committee, the latest issue of the 10C Bulletin indicated here today. The bulletin, dated August 15 but published today, contained extensive excerpts of the minutes of the IOC Congress last May at Munich, Germany, where the IOC voted to with- draw recognition from the Chinese National Olympic com- mittee on Formosa, until it takes on new, acceptable

name.

SPECTRUM

By

B. E. JANT

It was mid-afternoon. The hot humid atmosphere had taken its toll of all but those who had essential reasons for being on the move yet somehow the streets were still crowded and it was far from easy to walk on the footpath. Mr Wong had just finished an important business conference and as he made his way into the hustling throng in Des Vouex Road he found himself pulled forward by the subconscious thoughts it was, in fact, almost a mental mirage--of a long cool drink.

Like one abroad in some uncharted desert Bir Wong followed his instinct and I seemed that his footsteps were taking him unerringly towards the bar at his favourite club but, as sume sage has no doubi recorded "there's many a slip 'tween The traile thought arul a tot, and as he waited by Jigat Bear Jardine's now monument to progrem and. prosperity ho caught sight of Big John's swinging shoulders Larging a path for themselves through the crowd on the opposite side of Pedder Street.

Intent On Mission

John looked unusually determined and purposeful, Ite was quite obviously intent on ile mission, whatever it was, and by The very Intensity of his concentration Mr Wong decided it must be something pretty important

Just as he started to speculate about fils friend's intentions the he found himself crossing Pedder traffic ghis changed and

him from the opposite Street as Big John came towards direction. The thought flashed through Wong's mind that Big John had said only the night before that he was going sailing today and the fact that he was still very much on dry land seemed to Indioate more than ever that something of unusual moment had turned up.

Whatever quip Mr Wong had prepared for the occasion frose on his lips for Big John, kiu eyes fixed steadily in front of him, swept through the stream of hurrying pedestrians without even noticing bis old colleague.

Mr Wong stood in temporary confusion. "The outsized stinker' he muttered to himself, "whatever he's up to it's no good..... not with that look on his face." Completely obilviaus of the fact that the traffic lights had changed and that he was in some personal danger Mr Wong stood looking at Big John's broad back as it disappeared in the crowd.

He was suddenly brought back to his senses In the most nerve- shaking way. "It's just as well I'm paying more attention than your old xper!," said a voice almost In his ear and he realled with a start that the gleaming front bumper of # giant road monster was within inches of his back.

Mr Wong beat « hürrled retreat in the same direction as Big John and was not until be was safely back on the footpath that he had a chance to look at the card which was given to him under such unusual circumstances,

As he read it he fell his blood pressure mounting and his temper

rking. On one side of the card was neatly printed:

MOTORING HINT

A bol spanner should be used on a mut that refuses to mave. If, however the gut happens to be a jay- walking pedestrian, a cold spanner will do."

In spite of his aunoyance at the chain of events Mr Wong found himself smiling at the audacity of the motorist and, sa he the bazan to appreciate turned the card over, he really potentially morbid humour of the situation. The reverse side of the card had a neul black edge and it also had an embossed crous at the top left hand corner. It bore the

words:

"Here lies

"We almost filled YOUR name in the vacant space."

Mr Wong stood for a moment laughing at the words on the card quite Indifferent to the curious glances of the passers-by, and then he made off in hot pursuit of Big John.

L

As he moved along the street he happened to giance into one of the Colony's most popular department stores and there to his astonishment he saw Big John rummaging among the shirts in the Men's Department,

As he made to go up the stairs towards the front door Mr WODE spotted the moilces announcing "SALE"....and the thought was sili uppermost in his mind when he tapped Big John on the back.

John

'A-Sale-ing'

"So Ub won the kind of sale-ing you were going to do. All morning I've been thinking enviously of you at sea with the breeze blowing in your thinning hair, Listen, you great menzce, you will definitely be the death of me. A few minutes ago you went alamping past me In the street and In my surprise I almost cot knocked down and killed by car. Here have a look at this card which tite delver had the blasted cheek to slick in my hand fast before he drove off. Really, John, you cause me mure trouble than anyone or anything else I know." To give added strength to his Indignation Mr Wong finished his vocal allack by formally. presenting the motorist's unusual curd for John's' perusai,

"If there's troubla read the card and burst out laughing. anywhere around, my dear Wong, you'll find It" he said, "but I'm sorry about misleading you regarding the sailing............ we had a spot of engine falture and we had to call the whole thing off. But then I remembered that several of our lores had sales in progrem and....well sales are one of my favourite sports, I've never been able to resist them, Whether it was It is always been a weakness of mine. Selfridge's in London, Lewis's in Manchester. Fraser's la Glaszow. Myer's in Melbourne, or Robinson's in Singapore I've never been able to turn my back on them. Maybe I'll be able to buy a few good sports shirts:...or ·just-to-keep should search for a in step with modern Uings maybe natty line in Aippers, goggles, snorkels, or even water skis And then I could do a nice line around Repulse Bay or Sheko. Balls from the sales so to speak."

Free Whisky Racket

"Oh, we are very bright and clever today, aren't we?” replied Wong, with more than a hint of sarenam in his voice. well, I don't know very much about being bright and clever. I'm

certainly not very bright as far as sporijng affairs go for, it 1 was I think I'd make a special effort to get into this great Free Whisky Hackel. It's the best sporting glamick in years," said Bir John, with a quiet wink, a knowing wink, totis pal. "That's really why I'm in here." "Free Whisky Racket?" queried Mir Wour, "What are you up to this time. Where have you found a Bow risky whisky partime?"

...

"It's all very smiple," wald Big John as he handled a ɑno pake of cut-price rubber shoes, "This is the olur. Got into the Lawn Bowls ofrels. Last weekend Mere were four bottles of good Bootch given away: one each for two soyans and two for an olɛht to matches in the Howli League.
