Australia's Peter. Thomson, with his second three under par 67 in three days, took the lead at the three- quarter mark of the US$150,000 International Golf Tournament on Saturday.

But the United States tandem of Chick Harbert and Ed Furgol lengthened its lead in the team play for the Canada Cup, which is held concurrently with the individual event as part of the world's richest golf tournament.

THE ROMANCE OF THE

UNPREPOSSESSING

MAKES A GREAT FILM

By DILYS POWELL

At last I have seen "Marty"; it is a relief to be able to say that. Paddy Chayevsky's story won the Grand Prix at Cannes: delightful, said rumour; but with the exception of those who had turned up for the beginning of a seventeen-day festival nobody had succeeded in seeing the piece...

Never mind, I told myself, this is an American film · and, unlike some victors at festivals, bound to come to Britain; true that one travels half-way acrosS Europe to look at the prize winners all the same I shall see "Marty" in London.

By now, however, the elusive thing has been corralled at the Odéon, Leicester Square, and any-i of us con take a look at the qualities which won it a Grand Prix.
