The State Department announced today that the United States and Libya have concluded an agreement providing for the maintenance of American strategic air bases in the north African nation.
It is understood that the agreement secures the operation of Wheelus Air Force base in Libya for a 20-year period and provides for possible expansion of United States military installations.

The planned meeting of Western and Asian powers to map a South-east Asian defence alliance may be held in the Philippines, diplomatic sources said today.
