London, Dec, 30. Western Europe's post-war economic recovery went ahead in 1953 after the setbacks of the previous year. Industrial and agricultural output rose to new record heights, and this greatly benefited the external trade position and led to a sharp recovery in gold reserves.
The 17 nations which form the Organisation for European Econo- mic Co-operation increased their combined production by four per cent between the first nine months of 1952 and the corresponding period of 1953.
Total industrial production-during the period for which information is available--has been running at a rate of 13 per cent above the 1950 level and over 30 per cent above the pre-war level.
