Bristol Rovers, the team of the year, have sent out a begging letter to Football League clubs....begging them not to bid for their players.

Tall, quiet-spoken manager Bert Tann took this move after Liverpool, who had already bid up to £20,000 for wonder centre-forward Vic Lambden, came agala with an open chequelure.

Dearth Of Class Spinners A Worrying Problem For Australian Selectors

Says W. J. O'REILLY

Melbourne, Jan. 8.

W. J. O'Reilly, former Australian Test spin bowler, wald today that not the least worrying problem facing the Austrällan selectors in choosing their attack for the tour of England this year was the dearth of class spliners.

"Spin bowling has suddenly become tremendous- ly important to us again," declared O'Reilly in the Melbourne Herald.

He said the Australian fast bowlers, Lindwali and Miller, could not be expected to do the same back-breaking work they did in the 1948 tour of England.

This emphasised the need for spinners, who could be relied upon to do the important stock Bowling. he added.

O'Reilly said that Doug Ring was practically i certain choice but asked: "Where are the spinnēra, apart from Ring?"

"Study the position as seriously as you like and you will have to admit the selectors' job in providing us with a sound and, varled attack is unenviable,” O'Reilly sald.

"It seems that our all-out concentration on spoed bowling over the past five or six seasons to the almust complete exclusion of spin has now rebounded on us.”-Reuter.
