In the second set, Soares rdced to a 7-2 lead from 2-2, and at this stage, Funk decided to give away the game, making focio attempts of a number of returns. Soares had little difficulty" th winning the set. by 15-6, to force a rubber. After the much-needed ave-minute rest, Funk came strongly back in the second set to make an 8-2. lead.
