"RAPIER"

The second day of the Annual Race Meeting tomorrow should attract another large crowd of racing enthusiasts to the valley.

Another programme of 12 cents will be contested, with the P. & Ó. and Chinese Club Cup events providing the highlights of the day.

Here are my estimates of the chances:-

CURTAIN IS DOWN ON THE LOCAL RUGBY SEASON

By "HANLINCODE"

On Saturday afternoon on the Club Ground, Happy Valley, a good crowd saw the curtain come down on the local rugger senson when the finals of the Seven-n-side Charity Competition were played off. Wayfoong, the victors, were, without any shadow of doubt, warthy winners.

It was an ideal day for rugby, brilliant sunshine, no wind worth speaking about and the ground in beautiful condition. These Sevens, run every year for Charity, are played for a trophy called the Blarney Stone Shield and produce some of the most exciting football that is to be seen locally. This year was no exception,

RAF

DEFEATED

THEIR OWN EFFORTS AGAINST RECREIO

In the big hockey match of the week-end, the RAF went down to Recreio "A" by five goals to one. The score does not really reflect the run of the play as the Airmen had as much of the game as their opponents. However, even if they did have plenty of the ball, the RAF fiddled round with it instead of doing something constructive so that, as I forecast, their individualistic technique only re- sulted in defeating their own efforts.

They should realise that, nine times out of ten, it is a waste of time, having beaten one man, to try to beat a second. By the time they have managed to do this, the man whom they first beat should be in a position to tackle them again. Man for man they were probably the equal of Recreio, but a team is not judged by the efforts of its individuals. Recreio, on the other hand, play like a well-oiled machine and they did not waste any of their chances,
