MEET THE TEAMS-The Dorians

The Dorians should be in the dictionary between They are not and there must dominate and dour. have been a slip-up somewhere. They picked on the first name of one of Oscar Wilde's characters purely by chance.

They started on the road to fame with hockey sticks as the Diocesan Old Girls and, having reached the first half-time of their League experience without feeling more winded than they thought they should be, soon enough decided that they were not really old.

Now they style themselves the Dorians (DOGA) and spend the intervals of their League encounters saying kind words to each other.

A SUMMING

They are a very

sisterly team and the sorority system works wonders. The opposition did not score a goal against them in the last half of their last match.

As they line up, they are: Marjorie Roberts, who leads them, Eileen Jacobsen and Alice Oei;

Yvonne Oei, Margaret Fincher, Vivienne Churn (once the Colony's top-ranking mermaid), Olive Blue. stone and Pauline Kent.

THE

FIRST HALF OF THE ENGLISH SOCCER SEASON

By TOM FINNEY

Soon we shall be in December again, half-time in the football sea- son and an opportunity for a little retrospective thinking.

Already I see that one or two sides have been tipped as possible winners of the FA Cup at Wembley next April. It is every footballer's dream to walk up to the Royal box in that fine stadium to collect a medal - even if it is only a loser's medal.

I would like to think that this year my own club, Preston North End, might be there. We have had no great experience yet of First Division football. Indeed there are half-a-dozen sides against whom we have yet to play. But we have more than an outside chance.

The perils of the path to the killing" club against a football, only 18 men. Manchester City, one of these who went up with us, used only Cup are many. It is the greatest fashionable-any competition in the football world, can end one's hopes for another 22. No other side in the division

The fact that, until a few days ago, there were 68 golf clubs entitled to prefix their name with "Royal" does not mean that such a title carries little weight.
