OVERSEAS CHALLENGE AT AAA CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL

STRONGEST EVER

BE

By "RECORDER”.

With more quality in the home representation than ever in history, the Amateur Athletic Championships at the White City, London, this coming Friday and Saturday will see also one of the strongest invasions ever from the Continent and from Iceland.

The AAA Games will have the flavour of a miniature Qlympics with entries from Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Eire, Yugoslavia, Italy, Belgium, Jamaica, Trinidad, Tasmania, Nigeria and possibly the United States, South Africa and Rhodesia, - :-

The European invasion will be largely in the field events in which Britain, except for the high jump, shot put and hammer throw, is still an also-ran.

QUARTER-MILER'S SECRET

English Athletics stock rose still further when a combined Oxford and Cambridge team defeated Harvard and Yale by nine events to four. Winner of the Quarter Mile event was Nick Stacey (right), English team cap- talp.

He was followed home by Ed Grutzner who had a time been timed at 48.2 seconds for the distance, which was kept secret until the day of the meeting. But Grulzner was unable to reproduce that time against Stacoy who won comfortably in 19.2 seconds.--London' Express Service.
