AUSTRALIAN GIRL TIES WORLD SPRINT RECORD
Auckland, February 9.
Athletic finals, diving preliminaries and the re-play of the fours in bowls occupied the attention of spectators and competitors at the Empire Games here today.^
The bowls fours were won by South Africa, play-
ing magnificently, to beat, first, New Zeo- land in a semi-final and Australia in the final. The thron nations had lied yesterday when New Zealand won the singles and pairs, and their defeat in the first match today prevent- ed them from sweeping the boord at lawn bowls.
A feature of the athletic events was the success of the Australians, who increased their already formidable load in the tally of medals won by taking six of the seven finals decided to- day when record performances were accom- plished in more than one event.

Expectations of surprises should serve to make
cricket over-the-week-and-most-intorasting.......... There is really nothing "tight" about any of the
games, which only the weather con spoil. The giants of the Senior League are due to play against teams which are only too keen to deprive them of valuable points. Judging by recent bright; performances of some of these teams, they may yet do so.
