Greece, under the Marshall Plan, has accomplishod centuries of Governmental reforms in a matter of months, according to a report for 1949 by Co-Operation Administration the Economic
Mission in Greece.
Finding "catastrophic" conditions, the Mission gave refugee care and repatriation first priority, the report said.
At the beginning of its term in July, 1948, "an est!- mated one-third of the entire population--or about 250,000 people were fully or parti- ally dependent on the Greek State for some type of as- sistance," the report said.
The military situation improv- ed In 1949 and in September all but a handful of bandits hati been driven from the country.
The changed situation enabled the Greek Government, with the Assistance of the ECA Mission, to accomplish projects previously impossible.
"in 1949 about 500,000 re- fugees were removed from security centres and returned to their homes," the report said.
Second in importance to the repatriation of starved and rag- ged refugees, the report added. had been 31 work rellef gramme which, by July this year, covered 868 projects representing 08,825 jobs.
