BRITAIN'S GOLD-HOLDINGS
HAVE INCREASED
London, May 28. Although precise figures are a close official scerct, well-informed London quarters believe that the British Government has been accumulat- ing gold at a significant pace since it started drawing on the United States loan last July. This is regarded as more important than the news that one important Canadian gold-mining company is stoking its gold output in expecta- tion of a rise in at least the Canadian price and possibly the world price of gold, and that other Canadian mines may be following suit.

U.S. Senate Approves Tax-Reduction Bill
****
Washington, May 28.
The Senate today approved the $4,000,000,000 in- come tax reduction bill by a vote of 52 to 34 and sent it back to the House of Representa- tives to adjust differences.
The vote by which the measure was passed by the Senate bolstered Republican chances to over- ride a possible Truman veto. The House pass-- ed the bill in March with a vote of 273 to 137.
