Britain's Labour Rebels

Manifesto

London, Apr. 22. A political sensation is likely to be caused on the eye of tife Labour Party National Conference beginning on May 23 by publication of an "immediate remedy for the economic crisis" manifesto by a group of leftwing Labour Members of Parliament, headed by "rebel" leader R.H.S. Crossman and former Fleet Street editor Michael Foot.

Mr. Crossman, who was leader of the original re- volt of the section of the Labour Party against certain aspects of Mr. Ernest Bevin's foreign policy, voted with the Labour Government and against the new band of rebels on Conscrip-

Moscow Ministers Secretly Confer

Moscow, Apr. 22. The Council of Foreign Ministers again went into secret session soon after they assembled this evening. This was their third secret session within 24 hours. Observers thought that it might be another and possibly final attempt to come to some agreement for the completion of the Austrian treaty.

The session began with an open hearing of the re- -port of the special deputies on financial mea- sures for Trieste. Then the Ministers decided to sit in closed session, with only interpreters and two expert advisers each. Although official secrecy un today's secret sessions remain criptete, it can be taken for granted that 41 was on the zub. jret of the Austrian treaty.

There is good reason to believe that the Ministers failed to make any headway towards solution of the three insjör points of dil-

Oxford, Apr. 22.

A strong attack on the Roman Catholic Church was made at a conference of evangelical churchmen here today by the Reverend A: T. Houghton, General-Secretary of the British Bible Church Missionary Society.

Reviewing the movements towards a union among churches overseas, Reverend Houghton ex- pressed surprise that some people hoped that the Church of Rome, "this corrupt Church which arrogates to itself the title of Catholic," would be included in the reunion"of Christen- dom.
