BRIBERY CHARGE CASE
Allegations Of Corruption
That corruption in the Police Force, including European officers, was rife and that Chinese detectives were told to collect squeeze from gambling dens, opium divans and brothels for purchasing presents for senior officers, was alleged at the trial of Lance-Sergeant Detec tive Lau Chi on two counts of offering a bribe to Inspector W. N. Darkin, of the Special Branch, following a police raid on the Import and Ex- port Department. *** The trial, which was opened yesterday is being heard by Mr. Justice E. H. Williams. Puisne Judge. at the Criminal Sessions, Mr. Leo d'Almada Castro, instructed by Mr. Pater Sin, appeared for Lau and pleaded not guilty. Mr. AJ.
