Dr. G, H. Thomas, O.B.E., was first appointed in'

1912. He is by far the longest serving member of the Medical Department of Government. After a brilliant and varied career in many posts including medical officer Kwong Wah, Tung Wah, Mental. Government Civil and Prison Hospitals, lecturer in tropical diseases and mental diseases in the University of Hong Kong, and senior medical superintendent, Tung Wah group of hospitals. Dr. Thomas has now been promoted to the substantive post of Visiting Medical Officer, Chinese Hospitals and -Dispensaries.

In 1940, he was decorated with the M.B.E. for his long and valu- able service to the community, For his special service to the British Government during bost lities and in the Japanese occupa tion, Dr. Thomas received "The": additional honour of the 0.B.E. His recent promotion is sourer of great satisfaction to all in his wide circle of friends and cal leagues.

Dr. Lai Po-chuen, O.B.E., who, also, receives promation to the post of Lady Medical Officer, first joined the Government service in 1928.

Dr. Lai has served as medical officer, maternal and child welfare and supervisor of midwives and took over duty as medical officer in charge of the School Medleni Service from Dr. Mary King in October last.

The 27th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, which recently arrived in the Colony as part of the replacement for 150 Indian Infantry Brigade, is an artillery regiment of long standing and distinguished service. It has arrived here from Burma where it has been doing general secur- ity duties during the last year; prior to the peace the unit took part in the Burma cam- paign.
