Today, January 1, the coal mines of Britain are passing into the ownership of the nation and in a message from the Minister of Fuet and Power, Mr. Emmanuel Shinwell, miners are told:
"You are public servants upon whose efforts will depend our future as a powerful industrial country." The message also said that the in- dustry was embarking on a fresh start and would be run as a great public service from which everybody could benefit.
Whatever the answer, it seems likely business will be subject to less confusion than in 1046.
