Canton Tribute To Nell Elliott

Canton, July 1. Warm appreciation of the aid given by the British Red Cross to the needy of Canton and of the work done in this connection by its Welfare Officer in Canton, Miss (Major) Nell E. Elliott, was paid yesterday when Chinese and foreign friends of Miss Elliott gathered at the home of the British Consul-General, Canton, Mr. Ronald A. Hall, Ç.B.E., for a farewell party held in her honour.

Miss Elliott, who has been doing welfare work in the Far East for more than 20 years, is a Cana- dian and will shortly be returning to Canada via Hong Kong. She is well-known in Hong Kong as for years before the Pacific War she was engaged in welfare enterprises. She was one of the many who, in 1937, did so much for the thousands of Chinese and foreign refugees flocked to Hong Kong from Shanghai and other North China cities. When the Japaneve occupied
