TO-DAY'S LAWN BOWLS

K.C.C. CONFIDENT OF BEATING CRAIGENGOWER

By "SKIP"

IF LAST YEAR'S RESULTS were any criterion, the fixture between Club de Recreio "A" and Indian Recreation Club would appear to be the outstanding match in to-day's lawn bowls programme.

I am sure, however, that the King's Machado will Park team, for whom

be deputising for. Xavier who is sick, will be able to overcome the Indians quite easily, so the best match should be at Cox's Road where Kowloon Cricket Club entertain Craigengower.

The home team have had to make coming in one change, Willie Hyde

is not for Tommy Madar, who available this week. Although not playing in the League regularly Hyde is a very useful lead and his presence will not weaken the team at all, I Kowloon are justifiable know that confident of victory although I cannot conceive a very large margin in their

favour.

Kowloon Bowling Green Club have made one change for the visit to the Civil Ser- vants. The latters' reorganised team has not been seen in action yet but will need to do better than that which appeared in the two first games, if it is to reverse last year's result.

Club de Recreio "B" appear to be 'strong- er than they were in 1939 and in spite of their defeat at the hands of Craigengower I have an idea they will get the better of One or two the Police at King's Park. changes have been made in the home team which may land balance..

Hong Kong Football Club receive a visit from the Kowloon Dock team and a close game should be seen. Much as I would like the Footballers to have the encouragement of an initial win, I have formed the opinion that the team is hardly up to the required standard. It is early in the season to write this and I can only hope my judgment is at fault.

Second Division

Talkoo's visit to Austin Road appears to be the best item on the Second Division programme. The visitors have played two matches to date, both away from home, and have won them. On form they should win again—to-day-as they have defeated Craigen- gower, who in turn overcame today's hosts at Austin Road.

There was only one shot in it last year, and I think to-day's game will also be close, with the homesters having the edge by rea son of ground advantage.

By a coincidence' another game which a single shot decided-when the teams-met, is down for decision to-day. I refer to that between Police and Kowloon Tong: Neither team has word a game yet so there will bo a real battle for the points: I think the home term will retain them..

Craigengower and Kowloon Football Club should prove fairly evenly matched though the advantage of playing on their own, green may just turn the scales in favour of the Valley team.

Civil Servants have: a...: double-header......” as- Club de Recreio will be alongside Kowloon Bowling Green Club. The visitors are verý strong and should have little difficulty in enatching a couple of póinta, ka atlant The old cricket rivals meet in a new sphère of operations with the odds in favour

Third Division

The two unbeaten teams in Third Division, and Prison Officers Hong Kong Electric Club, meet at Ming Yuen; the visitors have the more impressive record in their two matches, in spite of two away victories for the Electricians, and I think will win quite comfortably.

Much as I should like to see the Indians win I do not think they will do so to-day when they visit Craigengower.

Hong Kong Cricket Club will no doubt take heart from their victory last week but even at home I do not imagine they can hold Hong Kong Football Club.

There is a local Derby between Kowloon Bowling Green Club and Kowloon Football Club at Austin Road, which match, on form, should result in a victory for the homesters,

NOTES AND COMMENTS

By

"SKIP"

ALTHOUGH for the present I do not pro- pose to go into the pros and cons of the postponement of the match between Civil Service Cricket Club and Kowloon Cricket Club last Saturday, the circumstances tend to add weight to my reiterated argument that the Association must fix a time limit for these cancellations.

Unless an exceptionally heavy shower in- tervenes, as may possibly, Happen of course, I feel that a decision should be made not later than 1.30 p.m. This would enable the conveners to get in touch with their players and so save them a useless journey.

I put forward as a serious suggestion that the Association ask the management of the Star Ferry Co, to allow a sports board" to be erected on both their wharves. Noti- fication of cancellation of any sports fixtures, not only bowls, could be posted up by res ponsible persons and in many cases players would be saved a journey. Of course this would, in theory, rob the Company of a few fares, very few I imagine, but I do not think this would affect the company's decision any more than it would materially affect the shareholders dividends! !

The Handbook

THE season began some four weeks ago

and many bowlers are wondering when the Association's official hand-book will make its appearance. If the delay will re- sult in a booklet mort, worthy of the Asso- ciation than was last year's, then it will be worth waiting for. The last issue was not only poorly printed on 'cheap paper, but and furthermore was full of inaccuracies omissions.

The Rules

AT the Annual General Meeting of the

Association, it was agreed that a new set of rules should be submitted to a full meeting of members for their consideration. One of the aspects requiring attention was the rules for competitions; another was the postponements mentioned above, and yet another the question of teams withdrawing from the League. I had hoped that the rules could have been passed before the competitions were due to commence but it obvious this cannot be so. A great pitył

The Scorers Again

AM going to make a final appeal to the scorers to keep their cards correctly, and am prompted to do so by studying two sets of cards which I have before me.' In one case the home team is recorded as winning by say 20-6 whilst on the other card the visitors had that advantage. Yet both the cards were solemnly signed by both the skips! What a farce. this signing, is becom- ing.

In another case the home skip's name appears as Number three on the opposite sidet
