MISSES YEUNG AND EARDLEY SHINE

THREE MATCHES WERE PLAYED in Mixed Doubles Division of the Lawn Tennis League yesterday. While the victories of C.R.C. over U.S.R.C. and L.R.C. over K.C.C. “B” occasion little surprise, the complete overshadowing of University by Hong Kong Cricket Club resulted in one of the most extraordinary score-sheets seen for a long time.

For H.K.C.C., L. Goldman and Miss Tylor did not. drop a game; for Uni- versity, C. C. Ma and Miss K. J. Hung falled to win one; in the course of the match no fewer than six of the nine sets won by Cricket Club were won to love and University in all, only managed to secure a total of nine games!

Interesting And Hard-Hitting Match

At King's Park, although, C. R. C. won by 61⁄2-21⁄2 they did not have matters all their own way by any means. Most of the game were close- ly-contested and hard-hitting by the home team was the order of the day.

Дети

Outstanding feature of the match was the brilliant form shown by C.R.C.'s, Miss Yeung Wai-bun. curate driving on both hands, sound overhead and a good volley when she went in to the net marks her as one of, if not the finest, lady player at present in the Colony.

Her partnership with Paul Kong was an impressive one. Kong in doubles himself, the perfect mixed player, had absolute confidence in his partner with the result that he was able to do his part with far greater effect.

Another player who caught the eye yesterday was Miss Decima Eardley. At the moment her greatest fault, as far as League tennis is concerned, is her impetuosity. A trifle weak on the backhand, she hit a long ball on the forehand with plenty of pace and her service is as aggressive as any lady's in the Colony. Her weakest department is probably her volley.

Miss Griffiths took some time to find her touch but later settled down to play a fine all court game in which an improved volley was in evidence. Her partner, Todd, was weak on the volley, however, and so this pair did not meet with a great deal of success. Of the other lady players, Miss Reeve was reliable off the ground, as was Mrs. Chiu.
