Mrs. A. M. Estall, residing at the Warrant Officers Quarters at Scandal Point was shot at with an automa- tic pistol by a 17-year-old Chinese youth whom she found on the premises on Monday afternoon.
Mrs. Estall escaped unharmed, but the alleged attacker was arrested and brought before Mr. R. Edwards at the Central Magistracy this morning.

To-day's list will cover the period from the beginning of the war to December 31. There are 40 names, including wounded.~~ The list will also give the names of 700 men who have died from accidents or disease at Home or overseas during the same period.
Expressing his sympathy with the relatives, Mr. Stanley pointed out that in relation to the period covered, the number of deaths is not unduly large. Reuter.

Of these 719 died, one died of wounds, 24 were wounded and missing, and 13 were killed.

The deaths included three women, of which one was a nurse and two members of the Auxiliary Territorial
Service.
The killed include three officers, five N.C.O.'s and men and also one missing, all of whom were on board the "Yorkshire," sunk in the Atlantic. Fifty-seven officers appear under the heading "died".
Heavy sufferers from deaths include 53 Royal Corps of Signals,, 150 Royal Artillery and over 70 Royal Engineers. The casualties include home service defence forces.--Reuter.
It is pointed out (adds Reuter) that 719 died on active service from ac- cident or disease and only 40 British soldiers have been killed or wounded in action.
