GENEROUS DONATION TO S.P.C.
Sir, I shall be much obliged if you will be so good as to publish in your next issue the enclosed copies of cor- respondence which I have exchanged with an English friend, who desires to remain anonymous, regarding generous donation he has just made to the Hong Kong Society for the Pro- tection of Children.
Yours faithfully.
R. H. KOTEWALL.
My dear Kotewall,-I am sorry to see the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children is behind in its Anances for the year. Although, on second thoughts, perhaps it is encour- aging to learn that the utmost is be- ing made of the available facilities by those working in such a splendid
cause.
To overcome the financial difficulty, I enclose a cheque for the year's de- ficit-$768,-from my wife and self.
YUNNAN RLY. MAY BE
LOOK
BOMBED
1
Questioned whether the Indo- China-Yunnan Railway might be bombed, the spokesman at the Shanghai Japanese press confer. ence Inferred that if it was neces sary to attack this line, the Japanese would do 80 without warning to the French authorities.
No agreement had been arrived at for protection of the line, in- 'asmuch as it was Chinese-owned, but French capital had contribut- ed to its construction. The Jap- anese had learned that Chungking were receiving munitions along this route.
No notice would be given to the French authorities if bombing should take place.

Yours sincerely,
My dear, I have just received your letter enclosing a cheque for $766 as a donation from you and Mrs. being the amount of the deficit of last year's working of the Hong Kong So- ciety for the Protection of Children. Your generosity and the promptitude with which you came to the assistance of the Society have touched me deep- ly, and 1 am sure will be a heartening encouragement to the officers and other members of the Society, whose behalf I tender you both our most grateful thanks.
on
I hope that you will permit me to send to the English and Chinese Press for publication (omitting your name) your letter and this reply, for I can conceive of no better means of call- ing the attention of the public to the needs of the Society than this fine lead taken by yourself and Mrs.
With renew expression of warmest thanks on behalf of the Society and of the poor and suffering children in the. Colony.
I am,
Yours sincerely, (sd) R. H. KOTEWALL.
