STINGING HERSELF TO DEATH?
London, To-day.
ON THE WHOLE, THE British Press yesterday concerned itself mainly with economic problems and steps which the Government is likely to take to co-ordinate econo- mic measures.
Both the "Daily Telegraph" and "The Times," however,
had a diverting variety of interests.
"The Times” says that the Finnish campaign has shown an interesting principle in modern warfare. While Helsinki suffers, or expects to suffer, from the horrors of aerial bombardment, the war in the north has de- veloped into one of reindeer transport and ski battles.
The country has no rail communi- [are to take such cases into a quiet cations, and while Generals Janvier | corner and psycho-analyse them on and Fevrier have played an import- | the spot! ant part in Russian history, they are quite capable of turning against the country which they have always served,
ODD CASE
Commenting on Mr. Churchill's statement that the Nazi Navy is run- ning amok among neutral shipping, the "Daily Telegraph" stresses the odd case of the Greek steamer sunk on Wednesday; she was carrying Ger- man coal from Antwerp to Greece.
The Nazi policy, says the "Daily Telegraph," would seem to 1C imitating that venomous creature which, when Irritated, stings itself to death!
The "Daily Herald" praises the Small Man of Britain, who has already contributed £21,000,000 to the Gov- ernment. Who would have thought it? The paper asks for assurances that the Small Man will not be forced to spend his savings at the end the war if he is unemployed.
