2-1/2D. GIVES EVACUEES WIDE CHOICE IN
HOT DINNERS
London, November 18. 'Aberdovey, the North Wales town which was the first reception area in Britain to provide communal meals, is credited with giving a lead to the Government.
Meals ot Aberdovey cost only 21⁄2d. When Mr. Kenneth Lindsay, Par- liamentary Secretary to the Board of Education, announced in Parliament that the Government are to pay the overhead charges for communal meals for evacuees in reception areas he asserted that a really good hot dinner could be produced from 2d. to 4d.
His figures are believed to be based on the Aberdovey scheme.
HOW IT IS DONE
Many people have inquired what the Aberdovey centre can give for 2d. Yesterday Miss Allday, canteen supervisor, gave the News Chronicle the menus for the past week.
Here they are:
Friday (Nov. 10): Corned beef, mashed carrots, potatoes, boiled ginger pudding, custard.
Saturday: Minced meat, lentils, onions, potatoes, chocolate shape.
Sunday: Cold roast beef, pickled cabbage, potatoes, fruit salad, custard.
rabbit, Monday: Stewed
carrots, onions, potatoes, boiled jam pudding, custard.
Tuesday: Herrings, potatoes, stewed apples and rice pudding.
Wednesday: Sausage and mash,
date and treacle pudding.
Thursday: Mince, meat, carrots, onions, potatoes, cornflour pudding and jam..
Yesterday: Vegetable stew, apple tart, custard.
COST DEDUCTED
A circular on the subject of com- munal meals will be issued early next week by the Board of Education.
Overhead charges will be met by the Government. By cooking in such quantities it is officially announced, a good meal can be supplied for between 21⁄2d. to 4d.
Where necessary, the cost of meals so provided will be deducted from the money paid to householders.

A redistribution of billeting is also suggested by the Minister.
Householders who accepted the burden of billeting "may not unreason- ably hope to be relieved of it, at least temporary", he points out.
The suggestion is that to afford each householder a period of relaxation, an arrangement might be made with a neighbour to take over one or more children month by month in turn.
Without attempting to forecast the time when it will be safe for those evacuated to return, adds the circular, the the Government consider that
plans of local authorities should be based on the assumption that evacuees should remain in the receiving areas during the approaching winter.
BROTHER OF NANCY CARROLL
The management of the Gloucester Hotel announce that they have en- gaged for a short season the famous Conchita dance team "Duo Passianos,"
for such are the and Billy Carroll, individual names of the "Duo Pas- slanos" who will make their first-ap- pearance to-night.
They will offer something entirely new in the way of floor shows. Their dances are unique and spectacular and the costuming magnificent. Their pre- sentations are of the highest order and are really works of art that re- quire dramatic ability and character study. Among their many dance crea- tions they will present a dance in- spired by the famous Bulgarian
Dracula" legend "Count
(King of Vampires) and "Marie Walewska" a mighty dancing drama of love, and emotion, these are considered the last word in originality and spectacle:
Carroll, who is said to be a brother, of Nancy Carroll, gives a clever im- personation of Charles Boyer and the resemblance he bears in this character to the famous film star is remarkable. "The Duo Passianos" come direct from India where they played in Colombo. Bombay and Calcutta.
