Closely besieged at Paitong, a small town 30 miles northeast of Nanning, the Japanese have been compelled to abandon the offensive and to dig in to wait for reinforcements. After three days' heavy fighting, the Chinese pressure is yet un- relaxed.
On the Nanning-Wuming highway the Chinese are occuping several strategic hills from where they are directing heavy flre against the Japanese.
