Mr. R. G. Casey, Australian representative at the Empire talks in London, said yester- day: "This war is ours much as yours.

"Empire solidarity in the war is not only a battle for high ideals but the only real and successful attempt at what the diplomats call collective se- curity."

Mr. Casey emphasised that he was speaking as an Australian of three generations standing.

He confessed that Australians got irritable when they read that Hitler sald that in certain cir- cumstances he would be willing to guarantee the continued existence of the British Empire,

Dealing with Australia's prepared- ness, Mr. Casey declared that besides making rifles and millions of rounds of small-arms ammunition daily, Aus- tralia has factories making the most modern anti-aircraft guns, Vickers, Lewis and Bren guns, artillery and ammunition of all sizes, depth charges and mines for the navy, aircraft bombs and a hundred other items in addition to modern fighting planes.

Regret is expressed in the evening newspapers at the death in Brussels of Burgomaster Max following attack of bronchial pneumonia, and his courageous services to his own country in the last war are recalled in much detail.

Burgomaster Max, who was 70, sent the following telegram to the Lord Mayor of London at the be- ginning of September: "When Great Britain, faithful to it's promise, courageously faces the trials of war, I express to you, to the members of the Corporation of your city and to the population of London, my feel- ings of 'most enthusiastic comrade- ship."-British Wireless.

Kwangsi yesterday.

Kweilin, the capital, was attacked by 16 machines.

Eight planes bombed Lungan and Kuoteh, northwest of Nanning, while six raided Kweihsien.-Central News.
