TWO ENGLISH COUNTIES FLOODED: BEDFORDSHIRE VILLAGES MAROONED
QUAKE SHOCKS IN CANADA
Ottawa, To-day. Earthquake shocks were exper- ienced over a wide area in east- ern Canada and the New Eng- land States of America yesterday.

The case was heard by the Chief Justice Sir Atholl MacGregor and jury composed of Messrs. H. Kin-long (foreman), A. Abbas, J. V. C. Riberio, J. Tan-hing, Lo Khin-ling, Lau Kam- leung and Lee Wal-chung.
Accused admitted having a fight with So Chung-wing but denied that he had any intention of stabbing him. Mr. J. B. Prentis, Assistant Crown Counsel, said accused was charged with causing grievious bodily harm and with wounding,
So Chung-wing was stabbed in the abdomen above the navel and the wound was caused by a narrow point-

FLOODS OVER AN AREA of 600 square miles which followed heavy rain on Wednesday, began to subside during the night but rain fell again yes- terday and the waters are rising.
In Bedfordshire the floods are spreading east, and
many villages are still isolated.
In many parts of the county the floods have reached
a depth of four feet. Newport Pagnell, in Buckingham- shire, has been cut off.
A girl cyclist in Bucks was swept off her machine and until rescued clung to a telegraph pole, which was floating by.

The floods in Buckinghamshire are subsiding somewhat, but they are increasing In Bedfordshire. At Bedford bridge the waters have risen three feet and the main road north out of the town is impassable.

Mr. Butler said the first German guarantee to Belgium was given on October 13, 1937, when Hitler nounced that he was determined not to infringe Belgium's inviolability and integrity.
This guarantee was repeated by the Nazi Ambassador in Brussels August 26 this year.
