TENSION BEHIND OUTWARD CALM

NAZIS LANDING MUNITIONS IN DANZIG AT NIGHT

Danzig, To-day.

A speech by the Nazi leader, Herr Foerster, in which he declared that the people of Danzig wished and would return to the Reich, was de- livered at the Nazi district party day celebra- tion yesterday, arranged some time ago. The speech was interrupted by wild applause. The streets yesterday morning presented the nor- mal Sunday appearance, except for the cons- picuous absence of men of military age and uniformed figures among the strolling crowds. All men of military age are "on duty." Only exceptions were soldiers visiting the Free City for the reunion of the 2nd West Prussian Field Artillery, Regiment No. 36.

The Japanese plan, adds the writer, is to take Shiukwan and Changsha, two of the most impor- tant cities still 'in Chinese hands."
