FOR ATTEMPTED OBSERVATORY BRIBE
Before Mr. T. J. Houston at the Central Magistracy this morning, Cheng Shing, 31, shop foki, was charged with giving a bribe of $1 to Police-Sergeant B323, Abdullah, at Des Voeux Road West near Water Street on Saturday.
Inspector W. Mair said that at about 8,45 a.m. on Saturday morn- ing, the Indian Sergeant saw an obstruction of wooden boxes on the footpath in Des Voeux Road West.
He ordered it to be removed, and defendant then gave the Sergeant a dollar and told him to overlook the matter.
Defendant was fined $100 or three months' hard labour.
JAPANESE WITHOUT
A PASSPORT
A 39-year-old Japanese, Junichi Masui, appeared this morning at the Central Magistracy before Mr. R. Edwards on a charge of having no valid passport.
Defendant, who lives at No. 20 Ice House Street, told the Court he did not think that it was necessary to renew the passport which he had but was now not valid. He was fined $10.
