Baldwin's Warning
If A War Were Forced On Great Britain "Would Fight As Never Before"
Earl Baldwin, speaking at Worcester revealed that when he retired from the Premiership he dis- cussed with Mr. Chamberlain Britain's "new diplo macy" of personal contact between heads of States.
Lord Baldwin said: "There are two very dan- gerous illusions about us in parts of the Continent of Europe. One is that we are afraid of war, and the second is that our people will never make the sacrifices that are necessary to organise themselves, in the event of war.

"We realise more than ever that it is destructive of life. We are told that, as it has never been before, it is destructive of all the finest works of man, and it may be a boast of a civilisation that war can do more damage to the work of men's hands and their arts and their crafts in two years than those poor uncivilised Homs and Goths and Vandals could do in two centuries.
