JAPANESE MASS EXECUTIONS IN CANTON
Canton, To-day.
A vigorous campaign against lawless elements in Canton has been launched by the Japanese authorities.
The Japanese have strengthen- ed military street patrols, have intensified the searching of pe-
destrians and are conducting surprise raids in various parts of the city.
Over 100 arrests are reported to have been made during the past few days, and nearly half of these have already been executed. After a parade in military trucks
through the main thoroughfares, 41 of those ar- rested and subsequently found guilty either of armed robbery or looting, were shot a few days ago in the first mass execution since the occupation.
