According to a Washington report the Acting Secretary of State, Mr. Sumner Welles, stated yesterday that the Ambassador to China, Mr. Nelson T. Johnson, has been requested to return to the United States for a brief period for consultation.

Mr. Johnson will arrive here about the middle of January and it is presumed that there will be important decisions taken at the State Department, regarding the course of policy. to be pursued on the China question in the face of Japanese encroach- ments on foreign rights. Reuter.
