New York, To-day.

Some 40,000,000 voters will go to the polls to-day to give America's verdict on the New Deal of Pre- sident Roosevelt.

The entire membership of the House of Represen- tatives, one-third of the Senate and the gov- ernors and members of local legislatures in 33 out of the 48 states are to be elected.

The present strength of the parties in the Senate is: Democrats 76, Republicans 16, Progressive 1, Farmer Labour 2, Independent Republican 1, the total being 96.

In the House the strength is: Democrats 330, Re- publicans 90, Progressive 8, Farmer Labour 5, vacant 2, the total being 435.
