Mystery is piling on mystery in the American Nazi spy ring case.
The appointment of Lt.-Gen. Itagaki as Minister of War in Tokyo has surprised Chinese circles in view of his defeat at Taierchwang.
Following the disappearance Interviewed by Reuter, the Chinese military spokes-of Dr. Ignatz Griebl, another man stated that the appointment of Lt.-Gen. vital witness has apparently Itagaki was probably due to Premier Konoye's vanished into thin air. desire to include a representative of the young officers' group in the Cabinet.
He pointed out that although, there were already five generals in the Cabinet, none of them was a member of this group.
Furthermore, the spokesman said, inclusion of Gen. Ugaki, who was bitterly opposed by the young officers, made it necessary to appoint Lt.-Gen. Itagaki, one of the recognised leaders of the group.
Lt. Gen. Itagaki is known to have played an important role in the Mukden coup, and also in the Reuter.present conflict. Reuter.
From what it is possible to judge from such information as has been cabled, the list represents a fine ag- gregation from which there is lit- tle doubt a sound team will even- tually be selected.
