THE CHINA-MAIL, MAY 23, 1938,
BRITISH MISSIONARY HERO OF AMBUSH BY CHINESE GUERILLAS
Peiping, To-day."
The great personal heroism of a British missionary, Dr. H. G. Wyatt," who, together with Miss Glasby, was killed by a Chinese mobile unit in North Shansi recently, has been disclosed with confirmation of the earlier reports of their death.
A party of five, consisting of Dr. Wyatt, Miss Glasby, Mr. and Mrs. Jasper and a Chinese chauffeur, left Taiyuanfu by car.
They were at a point 80 miles north of Taiyuan when a bullet from the hillside smashed the chauffeur's wrist.
The car stopped, Dr. Wyatt leapt out, tore the British flag from the car and waved it at the attackers who continued to pour in a heavy fire.
Dr. Wyatt faced the furious fu- sillade and ran towards the attack- ers, waving the flag, but the fire in- creased and he returned, shouting to his companions to scatter take shelter.
and
MISS GLASBY'S DEATH Miss Glasby was killed as she sat in the car, while Mr. and Mrs. Jasper took refuge underneath the vehicle.
Dr. Wyatt hoisted the uncon- scious chauffeur across his shoulder and ran across the bullet-swept road for the ditch but was shot as he fell in. Nevertheless he con- tinued to feebly wave the Union Jack till he died.
.
A MISTAKE The Chinese. captured Mr. and Mrs. Jasper and apologised when they found they were British, stat- ing they had fired on, the car in the belief that it was Japanese. They had not recognised the British flag they claimed.

After recalling that three Danish Arctic expeditions those of 1907, led by Mylius Erichsen, of 1910 led by Knud Rasmussen and Kreuchen, of 1918 -led by Rasmussen and Lauge-Koch -him- self-had failed to find any trace of Peary's hypothetical Polar channel, and that the American Senate had consequently rejected The men provided Mr. and Mrs: the Polar map based on that Jasper with food and mules on hypothesis, Dr., Lauge-Koch said which they rode 80 miles through that in the course of his recent the mountains back to Taiyuanfu.
