Twins are of two kinds-"like" and "unlike" twins. About one in four fascinating. are "like" twins-and they are the closest approximation that exists in Nature to soul-mates.
Why?
Let's discuss Я little elementary "biology."
A human being is produced by the union of an ovum, or female-cell, with male sperm-cell.

A case is quoted of a man who con- sulted a specialist for a severe eye in- flammation and said: "I expect my twin brother in Vienna is having exact- ly the same trouble."
A few days later he showed the astounded specialist a letter which con- firmed this.
Another pair of twins became insane at twenty-one and were separated. At forty-three they showed exactly the same delusions and hallucinations.

The vital importance of studying twins scientifically is that it helps us to understand more about how much a man's health and character is due to heredity, and how much to environment and 'surroundings.
There are some who believe that Heredity is the only thing that mat- ters. Others that Environment is everything.
Elaborate political theories and schemes have been built up on both of these beliefs. Theories that at this moment are splitting mankind into op- posing armies.
But they are both wrong.
Not Heredity alone. Not Environ- ment alone. But both of them together play a part in the fate of Man.
The scientific study of twins is slow- ly helping us to realise how much is Heredity and how much is Environ- ment..
