ANTI-JAPANESE BOYCOTT
London, To-day.
The House of Commons yesterday passed the first reading of a bill aimed at Japanese goods in- troduced by an Opposition Liberal, Mr. R. T. D. Acland.
The bill seeks to amend the Merchandise Marks Act by laying down that goods from certain coun- tries shall henceforth be marked with the pre- cise country from which they came.
Mr. Acland considered that buyers should be enabled to decide whether goods should be used to swell, the finances with which Japan is carry- ing on an unofficial war which has been unanimously condemned as а war of unprovoked aggression.
Mr. Herbert Williams (Conserva- tive, Croydon) thought we should first clear the decks by denouncing the treaty with Japan before taking the steps advocated by Mr. Acland.
