Mr. Tom Clark, the well-known journalist, can really say his home is a castle. He lives in Walmgate Bar, York, which is the only com- plete entrance to a walled city left in Europe. The Walmgate Bar is 800 years old and makes an unusual dwelling. Photo shows — Mr. Clark's wife at the entrance to the novel home at York. (Fox Copy- right).

With Japan?

Shanghai, To-day.

The possibility of putting an end to Japanese aggression by means of economic measures, is be- ing much discussed in Chinese political circles and the press, and hope is expressed that the foreign Powers will not refuse their assistance in applying such measures.

It is pointed out that Japan would be obliged to cease military operations if the Powers concern- ed were to place an embargo on the exportation of oil to Japan, whose yearly average consumption of this commodity in peace time is estimated at about 2,000,000 tons, and whose needs in this respect are now more than doubled.

It is further pointed out that only a relatively insignificant pro- portion of oil consumed in Japan can be obtained at home.
