CUP TIES TO-MORROW

FAMOUS 1923 FINAL

OVER AGAIN

GREAT CHANCE FOR HAMMERS

(By J. G. ORANGE)

London, December 14.

THE draw for the third round of the FA Cup, in which the 47 big professional clubs who had been exempted till this stage, take part, has] given London at least four matches on January 16, when the ties will be played.

The outstanding match in town will be that at Brentford, where Huddersfield Town will provide the opposition. Brentford have met with so much success this season that few will see in] this match anything other than a Brentford victory, în spite of Huddersfield's flair for cup-ties and their great record in the competition.

An all-London match has been drawn to take place at New Cross, where Millwall, who this season have been staging a revival, meet Fulham for the first time for some years.

This match will pack every inch of the accommodation at New Cross, where the crowd will be very anxious to see London's only Cup Derby in the third round, and, incidentally, get a good| look at the team who were good enough to get to the semi-final

last season.

Been of

From what I have the two sides this season, 1, don't think Fulham will lose, though they may only draw at the first attempt.

Bolton have been respon- sible for some good perform- ences away from home this season, however, and West Ham will find them very difficult opponent.

PRESENT LACK OF OPPORTUNITY FOR RECREATION

(By "ROVER”)

THE refusal of the Hong Kong Football Association to permit a postponement of the Royal Navy's Senior League fixtures for such a long period was actuated by no other motive that the desire to complete the League by the middle of May at the very latest.

Five years ago the League consisted of three divisions and the number of teams participating in them numbered only 24. There were 10 teams in the First Division and eight and six in the Second and Third Divisions respectively. Now there are three Leagues of 14 teams each, with the result that the Association have their hands full in trying to cope with the fixtures.

It has been pointed out that another outlet will have to be found The for those who will soon be clamouring for competitive football. clubs at present are not able to take in many more players, while the scarcity of grounds will not permit many more games to be played on week-end afternoons.

93

One solution to this situation would be the formation ́of a Commercial or Mercantile League and there is no doubt that such a competition would find favour as most of the larger firms in the Colony are able to raise teams ----- even in the present League we have the Railway, Radio and the Kwong" Wah (China Light and Power) competing in the Third Divi- sion.

Games have often been arrang-

ed between the staffa of different frms and an organised League: would provide a large number of players with a chance to play football, which would not only be 2 source of recreation to many but it would also benefit the em- ployers insofaras their Bwould have the necessary
