WITH incorporation papers now about ready to be issued, a new yet old enterprise, The Manila Racing Club Incorporated, will shortly make its bow to the public. Capitalised at P2,000,000.00 and with the backing of prominent citizens, this new racing club has acquired all the property and rights of the old Manila Jockey Club and is incorporating under the new name to carry on the objects of the parent organisa- tion.
The old Manila Jockey Club was organised about 70 years ago as an exclusive club whose purpose was to satisfy the desire of those who were interested in horse racing and the breeding of better horses in this country.
The members who comprised this original club had no thought of the club as a money-making concern, being more interested in it as a social gathering place for those whose love was for horses and racing.
The first race track was es- tablished on Calle Hipodromo in Santa Mesa and the first races were held in 1868. This con-
