is going to take a very good man to beat Tsui Wai-pui, the 1934 champion, in the Colony Lawn Tennis Singles Championship and I cannot see anyone even extending him before his probable semi-final game against the reigning champion, S. A. Rumjahn.
፡፡
Yesterday he fully demonstrated that he has regained con- trol of his powerful forehand drive, while his clever placements on the backhand were made with supreme confidence. He, how- ever, dropped several points at the net as the result of coming up on the wrong ball, but in an easy game such as he had yes- terday this should not unduly trouble his supporters.
Liang put up a plucky fight, several of the points being de cided only after long rallies. His forehand lacked sting, though very reliable, while his backhand was accurate when he did not have to cover ground to make his return.
Kwok and McDougall had many long rallies before the C.R.C. left-hander won for the loss of three games, which was a very unfair indication of the respective strengths of the two players. Kwok's patience and determination won him the match.
