Constructive occupation is most important for the child of pre- school age, and surely it is easier to take advantage of a nursery school or kindergarten to provide the morning programme, than to be constantly racking one's brain to ensure the necessary occupation at home..
Nursery schools are, unfortuz- ately, still far too few and far apart, but some families join forces, and hare a Froebel or kinder- farten mistress, so that five or six youngsters hava their merring
school together.
The word "school" is, of course, almost a figure of speech. It does not mean pen-and-ink lessons of a hard bench at a desk, or even add-

Some mothers are anxious to prevent their child from being forced or given lessons too early. He is so forward and intelligent -quite above the average," they Say "and I try to keep him back But this is really a mistaken idea for in the light of modern know- ledge we find that the child who sets his own pace never over-does it, either physically or mentally, but to deny the outlet for con- structive "work" would more harm

LONDON CLUBS ARE CHANGING

It
It is just at this point that the World War dealt its most crush- ing blow at London club life. had a number of direct effects, for it wiped out a whole-generation of members. As a result it would probably be true there are no available figures--to say that the average member is younger to-day Bat than he has ever been before. the war also had an indirect effect in that it made an end of the Vic- turian system. It released women from the homes in which they used to sit demurely while their bus- bands ran away to their clubs. To- day there are women all over the place, even in men's clubs.
It was the Athenaeum that led off by engaging waitresses during the war. Almost every other club in London followed suit, and for the time being the old-fashioned liveried waiter the civilest, the kindest, the most patient of men," as Thac- keray once described him-disa p- peared into the army. In time it became the general consensus that waitresses were very efficient but had a way of answering back or even going to the secretary when savage marquesses barked at them, as savage marquesses have a way of doing in clubs.
Most clubs have now gone back

Scalp as well as skin cleanliness is essential to comfort and beauty when on an outdoor holiday. When packing for your motor tour, then, whatever else you have to leave ben hind don't forget your cleansing cream or cleansing milk and a pac- ket of shampoo powder.
I have recently discovered а shampoo that seems to have been made for the open-air motorist. It is nonsoapy, therefore easily rins ed out, and is not affected by hard water. In a few moments the scalp is freed of dust and grime, and 2 quick rinsing leaves the hair bright and lustrous.
