COMPLETE TEST STATISTICS COMPLETELY demoralised by the after effects of Douglas Jardine's triumphant tour of Australia in the 1932-33 season and the subsequent censure of fast leg theory, it came as no surprise to see English cricket receive an- other setback during the present South African tour.
Lack of enterprise on the part of Wyatt backed up by unaccountable failures by the English batsmen allowed glorious opportunities to slip away both at Leeds and Old Trafford, and the cry for brighter cricket was again echoed throughout the country.
Despite the fact that Wyatt had a battery of three of the best fast bowlers in England at his service in the Oval match. which finished so tamely last Wednesday, the tourists averaged 47 runs per-wicket after being sent in to bat? The bowlers in question, afraid of being labelled dangerous in the same sense as Larwood and Voce were after the 1932-33 Australian season, were almost entirely ineffective, despite the fact that all three of them have many outstanding feats to their credit in the county championship series. The whole trouble is that English cricket, talking of representative sides, has died a tragic death.
The five Tests recently com pleted have brought four men in- to the limelight-Robins Mitchell (Yorkshire). Bakewell, and Bar- ber and it is almost safe to say that all four will visit Australia this winter. Hardstaff, ER T Holmes and Mitchell-Innes failed in their initial appearances and were passed over. They, too, are likely to tour Australia, with Jess experience, than they should have had. England's captaincy pro- blems are likely to be solved by the selection of Robins or Holmes as skipper, although Wyatt is bound to accompany the team.

This is the opinion of Dr. Yung Chi Shan, of the China Amateur Athletic and Sports Federation, who was in Singapore recently, and who is now touring Java and Sumatra with the Chang Hua Football Team, of Shanghai.
