VERY thrilling but ragged water-polo game was witnessed by a very large crowd at North Point yesterday evening, when the European YM.C.A. sustained their first defeat this season, losing to the South China Athletic Association by the odd goal in five.
• The Chinese did not deserve to win as their opponents were all over them for the major portion of the game, but two fatal breakaways owing to bad marking cost the Euro- Peans the game.
There were patches of individual brilliance on both sides, G. H. Fowler supplying the outstanding performance of the evening under a great handicap. There were times innumer- able when he hit everything there was to hit on the Chinese goal with two men hanging on to him like leeches, and his second goal was the best of the game.
