The history of the America's Cup is indeed remarkable. In the course of 83 years there have been fourteen challenges, and Mr. Sopwith's is the fifteen. Every one has failed, so well has the New York Yacht Club defended the Cup which their schooner America won at the Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes in 1851.
The first question every layman asks when yacht racing is mentioned is "Why is it that we never can win the America's Cup?" It certainly seems very strange. Even by luck alone at least one
