PODMORE'S FINE DISPLAY
PROBABLE ELEVEN LACK COMBINATION AND FAIL BADLY.
THE
(By OUTSIDE LEFT.) STERLING DISPLAY OF MULLANE, THE BORDERERS FULL BACK, WAS THE OUTSTANDING FEATURE OF THE INTERPORT SOCCER TRIÁL ÁT SOOKUNPOO YESTERDAY. ON HIS PRESENT FORM MULLANE SHOULD HAVE LITTLE DIFFICULTY IN GETTING INTO THE SELECTED ELEVEN TO
PARTNER STRANGE.
Judging the game from a critical angle it lacked sparkle and was very lame. The Interpart Trial eleven were eleven individual players with little pretence at combination, and very few of the players lived up to their reputations. Next to- Mullane, Podmore was the most conspicuous player, but it is understood that he will be unable to make the trip even if selected..
The third interpart trial soreer game against the Army, was held yesterday afternion at the Army ground at Sookumpos, the game re- sulting in a draw of 3-3.
For an interport trial the game was poor, both teams being very slow, although at times there were flashes of sparkling play. Both teams were not at full strength, the interport team being without Bar- ber at centre half, Chen Sui Hong at outside right and Morrison at} left back.
The game in general was de. void of any first class football, being played in a spiritless manner.
centre forward, being too slow in taking the ball and very often out of position. A great fault of his appears to be that of dilly dallying with the ball. Numerous opportunities were given him, but he was intent on playing with the ball with the result that he lost it. He should have maile more use of his openings, but instead of shooting himself passed weak- ly to Ridley, who was never anywhere near the ball.
The left wing of the forward line was perhaps the best of the

DUNCAN WEAK LINK,
The interport, halves were work-! Ing hard to break up the attack, but Duncan proved the weak link! in the line. Lakeman sent in some fine drives, which, had any other goalkeeper been present, would have materialised.
Mullane was the obstacle which the Army forwards tried hurd to dislodge, but the little man made rings round them and saved desperate, situa- tions time and again, Tong Kwan lending a helping himunt. Lakeman was responsible for the best opening of the game when The neatly took the ball from Tong Kwan and sent in nicely through between Mullane and Martin for Higons. The centre was, how- ever, slow in getting off the mark and Rodger reached the ball first to kick clear just in time.
INTERPORTERS AHEAD.
With the ball in midfleld andi Beltrao in possession, the interport team really got going, the latter whole team, the combination

On the run of the play the Army should have run out easy winners,
plenty of time to do it in".

In the premier league the best match of the day will be that between the Lincolns and the Artillery and the newcomers should prove just strong enough to take both points.
The Second Division provides an interesting encounter · be- tween the South China and the Borderers and I think that the bustling tactics of the military side should turn the tide in their favour.
