The 9.8. Wa Haing, the M- fated ship of the San Peh Steam Navigation Company which struck a rock and sank ap- proximately 130 miles above Ichang, is completely submerged with only her funnel portruding above the water, it was officially announced recently by Mr. Chang Hung-chu, head of the general department of the company.
The company has been inform ed by its Ichang branch that the. crew of the ship, numbering 60, left the ship en route to Ichang. They arrived at Ichang safely but regretted that they could not carry out the order from Mr. Yu Ya-ching, managing director of the company who urged them to stay on board the ship pending fall of the waters,
While the cargo is being dis- posed of in Hankow, Mr. Chang said that the company will lose no time in carrying out a salvage plan which will require a little less than $10,000. This will be done after two weeks when the water is expected to have sub- sided by 20 feet.
This is the third mishap suf- fered by the company since its establishment.. The company
now has 23 ships. It will require approximately six months to completely carry out a salvage plan.
