THE ANIMAL WORLD.
Commenting on the remarkable re-development of chemical science and its industrial application in recent years, Lord Melchett said that when! he was showing the Prince of Wales over the Billingham synthetic ammonia works, the Prince was keenly interested in all he saw, but confessed that his lack of technical knowledge prevented him from un- derstanding much that he would have wished.

ANGLICAN CHURCH.
ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY'S ADDRESS TO BISHOPS.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, in his address to the Bishops assembled for the Lambeth Conference in Canterbury Cathedral, said that a welcome came not only from his own full heart, but also from the Mother- heart of that venerable and beauti ful church.
Among all the memories which surrounded them there was one which filled and moved and united the hearts of all. It was the memory of the great and good Arch- bishop, who was five times present at six Lambeth conferences and twice presided.
As the Bishops of this seventh conference were already beginning to assemble he was passing to his rest, to the worship and service of the Church unseen. They would mias his words, his spirit of wisdom, of steadfast falth, of resolute hope, of charity unfeigned. Yet surely they would not wholly be benefit of his help and his guidance. Given in the realm of spirit they might be even more real deep. Their faith in the Communion of Saints. their asurance that the Church in this passing scene and the Church, in the eternal world were one, con- strained them to believe that he was with them now and that in the long days of deliberation which were at hand he would be with them still.
The first, the deepest, the greatest. of all the aubjects to which they wore bidden to give their thoughts was the doctrine of God. The one supreme purpose of all human life was that it should, find its way to God. If this purpose was to be fulfilled it was not enough that men should know that He is; they must know in some measure what He is
They had not put God Himself before their eyes in His eternal At the Plano, Mr. C. Dudley nature as infinita Wisdom, Power attractive Bartlett, Mr. Fleming.

We regret exceedingly to record the death of Mr. A, B. Fly, who, together with his wife, sons, daughters, and grandchildren, succumbed to the well known poison
